מאה שנים של שכבות צבע

סמטה ליד רחוב הנביאים בירושלים, בית עובר שיפוץ. מחליפים את חלונותיו המקוריים בחלונות אלומיניום
. כל העיר הזאת מתאבדת אל נוף אלומיניום
כמו ארכיאולוג, חשפתי ממסגרות החלונות הישנים שכבות של צבע
לבן, ירוק חיוור, אוקר, בז' שקראו לו אוף- וויט
וחום חלוד שאולי הזכיר פעם למישהו צבע של עץ
ציירתי להם ציורים, שישתקף בעדם נוף יפה כמו שפעם עוד נראה מבעד לחלונות בירושלים
הרי יהודה עם הטרשים ועצי השקד, הצברים והחרולים

Vered Terry - Windows from Jerusalem (100 years' layers of paint)

An alley off Neviim St. in Jerusalem, a house is being renovated. The old windows are removed, their place being taken by aluminum frames.
This entire city is lost to an "aluminumscape".
And just like an archeologist, I reveal layers of paint from the old window frames:
white, pale green, ochre, beige that was called off- white
and rusty brown that a long time ago, perhaps reminded someone of the color of wood.
I painted pictures to give them once more a landscape to be seen through,
those beautiful landscapes one can no longer see there:
The Judean Hills with their rocky terrain, the almond trees, the sabras and the thistles.
